Fall
2008 Office Hours: 11:00-11:50
am MWF, 1:00-1:50 pm MW, and by appointment.
Greetings: My research
interest focuses primarily on mind-body medicine and the ability of
contemplative practices such as guided visual imagery, hypnosis, and meditation
to affect healing. I am also interested in the psychological
characteristics of online students, and of student veterans.
Please
feel free to read my CV.
I also invite you to read my very occasionally updated reviews of the research relevant to these interests at my blog, Coherence.
I am a member of the Association
for Psychological Science (APS), which actively promotes the science of
psychology; and of the American Society of
Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH), one of the foremost sources for
legitimate training in hypnosis. I am
also a member of the Association for
Contemplative Mind in Higher Education (ACMHE), a new organization intended
to explore how mindfulness can be capitalized in college and university.
On
campus, I currently serve as the chair of the Institutional Review Board, as well as of the Online Course Peer Review Committee. I am also involved with the College within Your Reach Program,
which seeks to motivate middle school and high school students to attend
college.
Department
Philosophy: The
Psychology Department of Inver Hills Community College seeks to foster a
scientific approach to the study of behavior and mental processes. The
department offers a curriculum designed to serve students who will earn an A.A.
degree and do upper-division work, and perhaps graduate work, in psychology.
Our classes are relevant to those who intend to continue their formal education
in career programs, such as nursing and those who plan to take one or several
courses at Inver Hills Community College in pursuit of other learning goals.
We work to promote the belief that gaining knowledge through the discipline of
psychology will enhance personal lives and develop responsible and educated
citizens.
Career Paths in
Psychology: If you are curious about a career in
psychology, I invite you to read this brief
review of information I have prepared on psychology at Inver Hills and
beyond.
If you are thinking about transferring to another school after Inver Hills Community College, you might find the College Navigator to be helpful.
