A WebQuest for 2nd
Grade Science Class Designed by Noreen Hauer Introduction | Task | Process | Evaluation | Conclusion | Credits | Teacher Page You
are about to go on a great adventure today! I want you to pretend that you
are a botanist scientist that studies plants and one
day you woke up to find out that you were as small as a plant! Wow! Now you
can learn even more about plants and see them better, because you are the
same size as the plants! You
will work with 2 other students and do research, to find the answers to the
following questions. Then make a Journal book of your life cycle as a plant
growing up starting as a seed to a mature plant. Draw a picture of each stage
of your life cycle development and also write a few sentences or a short
paragraph about what is happening to you below each picture. Or, you could do
a Picture storybook by drawing each stage of your growth as a plant with a
picture. You
know what kind of foods and liquids you need to eat and drink to help you
grow up into an adult, but now you are a plant! So, what will you need as a
plant, to grow from a seed to a mature plant, like a child grows into an
adult in human life?
You will be
answering these questions by clicking on the icon and going to a website to
get your answers. (Remember you are starting as a seed) 2. How would you describe yourself to me? 3. What do you need to survive? 5. Who are some of your friends? 6. Who are some of your enemies? Then you will all gather your
information together and draw your pictures and write what is happening to
you under each picture for your Journal book. Or make a Picture storybook
about each stage of your growth as a plant. There should be a page for each
answered question. To accomplish your task:
Here are
some questions to think about when you are researching your questions: a)
When
I describe myself as a plant, how many parts do I have? b)
When
I’m hungry, what would I eat or drink? c)
What
are the things that would hurt me? d)
Who
would want to hurt me? e)
Who
helps me grow? f)
What
is Photosynthesis? Be sure to
write all your information down on a separate sheet of paper before you draw
your pictures. Then you can write your story under your pictures in your
journal book. ***Don’t
forget to make a cover page for your storybook with a title on it too. (You
can draw a picture of you as a plant on the cover and you should color it
with as many colors as you want, to make it look nice. Remember, this is like
a story about you!) Your performance will be
evaluated by the completion of your book and how well you have answered all
the questions. Also, if you have put all your drawings in the proper order of
the growth cycle of the plant; from a seed to a mature plant. How much you
participated and how well you worked with your team. There will be a common grade
for group work and also an individual grade for your own contributions and
completion of the questions you were assigned to and participation in the
presentation to the class.
When you have completed this
project, you will know all the parts of a plant and how they grow and what
happens to plants through their journey from a seed to becoming a beautiful
plant and who their enemies are. *Now you can take that
journey in a short video by clicking on this flower. http://www.mbgnet.net/bioplants/grow.html http://www.mbgnet.net/bioplants/parts.html ·
