Course Text Books


Chinese Language Study

   
Inver Hills Community College began to offer web-enhanced Classroom/Online Chinese language study with the Fall 2006 semester. In order to meet the special needs of such a program new teaching materials--the Chinese Link Series (Carnegie Mellon University & Prentice Hall: 2006)--have been incorporated into the Chinese program.

Beginning Chinese I & II (CHIN 1101/CHIN 1102)
   Chinese Link: Elementary Chinese
is used in Beginning Chinese classes. Students must purchase the CHINESE LINK: ZHONGWN TRADWKBK / CHAR&AUD CD Value Pack (ISBN # 0132264064), which includes the text, a workbook, and a set of 13 Audio CDs. These materials will be used during both Beginning Chinese I and Beginning Chinese II, with the purchase of only one additional book--a Chinese radical dictionary--needed in Beginning Chinese II. This shrink-wrapped Value Pack can be purchased at the Inver Hills Community College Book Store.

Intermediate Chinese I & II (CHIN 2201/CHIN 2202)
   The second year of the Chinese Link Series, Intermediate Chinese, will be incorporated into the Inver Hills Community College Chinese program starting with the Fall Semester of the 2008-2009 school year. The required materials for this second year of Mandarin Chinese include the following. First Semester: Chinese Link Intermediate Chinese, Level 2, Part 1, Text; Chinese Link Intermediate Chinese, Level 2, Part 1, Workbook; and Chinese Link Intermediate Chinese, Level 2, Part 1, Audio CDs. Second Semester: Chinese Link Intermediate Chinese, Level 2, Part 2, Text; Chinese Link Intermediate Chinese, Level 2, Part 2, Workbook; and Chinese Link Intermediate Chinese, Level 2, Part 2, Audio CDs.

   All materials for both courses can be purchased in the Inver Hills Community College Book Store. Students interested in getting a quick early look at these materials or desiring to register for the Prentice Hall online 'Student Resource Center' may go to the Prentice Hall web sites at Chinese Link: Elementary Chinese or Chinese Link: Intermediate Chinese. Chinese Culture I & II (HUM 1120/HUM 1121)
   Two books are required for Chinese Culture. They are the only books that students will have to buy for both Chinese Culture I and Chinese Culture II and can be purchased at the Inver Hills Community College Book Store.

Philosophy East & West (PHIL 1135)
   This course, which has been taught since Spring 2008, runs only in the Spring semester of each academic year. This course is team taught by the Chinese Instructor, Paul Fendos, and an instructor in the Philosophy Department. One textbook is required for the Chinese portion of the course.
