GENERAL POINTS TO KEEP IN MIND

Tom’s  basic rules:

-         Each time you come to class give me YOUR PERSONAL BEST!!!

-         Each class period you must sit at a different table with different people

METHOD OF EVALUATION

1.     ATTENDANCE:

“Half of success is just showing up.”  Your presence is important to our learning community.  Each of your voices and experiences enriches the context of our learning.  As adult learners, your presence is important to the class.  You will be allowed one absence for whatever reason (i.e. illness, personal health day).  Think of this as your “Get out of jail free card.”  A sign-in sheet will be passed around for each class.  Be sure you sign in!  Each day missed after one absence will result in losing 10 points per day off your attendance score.

Total points possible for attendance:  50 pts.

 2.     QUIZZES

There will be three quizzes worth 25pts each in this course.  Quiz dates are the following:

 3.     FINAL PROJECT:

The topic of human sexuality invites a vast array of subjects that I cannot possibly cover in an 11-week course.  Operating out of my personal philosophy that we are all instructors to each other (I’m not the only instructor in this course), choose a topic that interests you and present on it in the class, either individually or in a group. (There can be no more than 4 people in a group.)  If you present individually, you are limited to 10-12 minutes.  If you present as a twosome, you will be limited to 15 minutes, threesome 20-22 minutes, and foursome 25 minutes.

When you present, you will need to hand in two written papers:

You will need to hand in a written outline of your presentation (1) & a bibliography (2).  Your bibliography should contain the following:

§  At least three Internet sources

§  At least one professional journal

§  A total of at least 5 sources must be represented in your Bibliography

PLEASE NOTE:  If you read to us your presentation or most of it, the highest grade you will receive for this assignment is a “C” grade.

Feel free to be as creative as possible using note cards, overheads, flip chart, Power Point, videos, or role-plays.

Total points possible for final project:  50 pts.

 4.GENDER IDENTITY PAPER:

This paper is a common assignment for most Human Sexuality classes.  It invites you to look at your own unique development as a female or male.  More details on this assignment will be given you in a separate handout.  This paper should be 3-5 pages in length, typed and double spaced.

Total points possible for gender identity paper:  50 pts.

5.CLASS PARTICIPATION:

If you consistently come to class late, leave during break, or leave early, points will be taken off your participation score. If you say nothing all semester long; if you contribute nothing to class discussions, you will get no better than a “C” for your participation score.

Total points possible for your participation grade – 25pts
