A BRIEF REFERENCE GUIDE FOR APA STYLE

Examples of how to show references:

 

Journal: 

Hayslip, J.B., & Van Zandt, Z. (2000).  Using national standards and models of
     excellence as frameworks for accountability.  Journal of Career
     Development, 27, 81-87. 

 

Book: 

Campbell, C.A., & Dahir, C.A. (2003).  The national standards for school
   
 psychology programs.  New York:  McGraw-Hill.

 

 Book, third edition:

 Mitchell, T.R., & Larson, J.R., Jr. (1987).  People in organizations:  An
      introduction to organizational behavior (3rd ed.).  New York:  McGraw-Hill.
 

     

Research cited in a secondary text

Give the secondary source in the reference list; in your paper, name the original work and give a citation for the secondary source.  For example if DeNavas-Walt, Cleveland and Webster’s work is cited in Myers and you did not read the work cited, list the Myers reference in References. 

In the body of the paper, use the following:

DeNavas-Walt, Cleveland and Webster’s study (as cited in Myers, 2004)

In the references list:

Myers, D. G.  (2004).  Psychology.  New York:  Worth Publishers.

 

Internet  (Government Organization) 

International Labour Organizations.  (1999).  Americans work longest hours
    among industrialized countries, Japanese second longest.  Retrieved June
    16, 2004 from: http://www/ilo.org/public/english/bureau/inf/pr/1999/29.htm
