Basic Writing—English 96
Prepares students for academic writing through extensive practice with formal and informal writing assignments. Includes a review of English grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure. Intended for students whose college assessment results suggest that further development of writing skills would be beneficial. Prerequisites: Placement as recommended by college assessments.
English Essentials—English 0099
Reviews and/or introduces the basic skills needed to write in standard edited English, including the skills needed to complete college writing assignments in other classes. Students will write short essays moving toward the college-level argumentative or expository essay. Prerequisites: Placement as recommended by college assessments or one of the following: EAP 0090, EAP 0096, READ 0090, ENG 0096.
Writing and Research Skills—English 1108
Emphasizes expository and persuasive writing skills with attention to rhetorical modes, audience awareness, logical reasoning, critical reading, and research techniques. Prerequisites: Grade of "C" or higher in ENG 0099 or recommended by Assessment.
Introduction to College Reading and Writing—Reading 0090
Introduces the beginning college student to the demands of college reading and writing through the close study of representative college textbook material and the production of short essays and other informal writing. Includes a review of English grammar. Prereq: Placement as recommended by college assessment.
Reading College Texts—Reading 0093
Focuses on developing the reading and study strategies necessary for success in a typical college course. Emphasizes strategies for improving understanding of what is read as well as strategies for selecting, organizing, and remembering. Also encourages development of skills and habits for lifelong learning. Intended for students who desire to improve college-level reading and study skills. Prerequisites: Recommended by college assessments.
