This course is an historical survey of major works in painting, sculpture, architecture, and decorative arts from the 15th through 21st centuries. An emphasis will be placed on understanding art historical terms, identifying artistic styles, understanding the creative intent of artists and the significance of movements and individual works in terms of the styles and methods employed in their creation and the cultural, religious, and political philosophies that influenced them. No previous knowledge of art or art history is required. |
