COURSE DESCRIPTION: This
course is a study of physical fitness, nutrition and stress as they relate
to health. Through testing and
self-assessments, the student’s current status is analyzed.
After the information on improving skills in each area is presented,
the student will develop a plan for implementation.
The course will include information on cardiovascular disease and
cancer risk reduction, aging and health, and substance abuse control.
This course may be used to fulfill one credit toward the physical
education requirement and one credit toward the health requirement.

COMMUNICATION:
Be sure to activate your student email
account. This is the
official communication method for IHCC and I will use it if I need to
contact you. I will respond to
your emails within 24 business hours, which means if you email me Friday
afternoon I will respond by Monday afternoon.

This is a hybrid course
with some material presented electronically on D2L.
It is your responsibility to check the course site at
least twice per week and
sometimes more often when discussions are occurring online.
EXTRA HELP:
SmartThinking is an online tutoring service available on the IHCC web
site and the Learning Center on second floor Library Building is available
for writing and math assistance.
Please use these services as necessary to improve your papers and your
understanding of the course material.
COURSE OUTCOMES: The
student will:
1.
Evaluate their motivation for taking control of their health and
lifestyle habits.
2.
Complete a three-day nutrient analysis, recognizing areas of
deficiencies and what changes should be made.
3.
Measure their performance on health and skill related fitness
components and develop a plan to improve their current level of fitness.
4.
Identify current stressors and utilize stress management and
relaxation techniques to minimize stress levels.
5.
Recognize the risk factors in developing cancer and cardiovascular
disease.
6.
Discuss other health concerns.
ATTENDANCE:
Two consecutive weeks of nonattendance without contacting the
instructor will result in an F.
It is the student’s responsibility to find out what was missed when absent.

At the end of your posting indicate the word count.
There are 7 topics for the course.
You must participate in at least 6 of these discussions.

All assignments

If you miss a test, you must speak with the instructor
prior to the test date to arrange
a make-up exam or call or email the day of the exam if you are ill.
Quizzes must be completed online by the deadline or you receive a
zero. Discussions must also be
posted by the deadline or you will receive a zero.

assignments outside of class time, please slide them underneath my office
door, A213, or email them to me.

Incomplete Grade and
Withdrawal Information: Students must
initiate requests for either an incomplete grade or withdrawal from a course by
filing the appropriate form with Enrollment Services. Students who stop
attending classes without completing the withdrawal process may receive a grade
of “F,” and are responsible for all tuition/fees associated with the course
registration. Withdrawal forms must
be submitted by April 18. Failure to
complete a course may jeopardize your financial aid.
