Homework guidelines for all courses that I teach:

1.  Label the homework for the section, text page reference, and exercises assigned.

2.  Copy the original exercises with instructions.  If the exercise is a word problem, summarize the given facts that pertain to finding an answer to the question.  If multiple exercises have the same instructions, write the instructions only once and label them with the associated exercise numbers.

3.  Show all steps including scratch work.

4.  Check to see if your answer is correct.  Answers for text exercises are at the back of the text.  Answers for online homework are given immediately when an answer is inserted.

5.  Mark errors on your paper, but do not erase them.  If you make a mistake, redo the problem correctly next to it or at the end of the assignment.

6.  Get help from me during office hours or via e-mail, use the Math Center staff, or use any of the other help resources listed in your syllabus.

7.  Staple your homework as assigned per section.  Whether or not homework is collected is explained in your syllabus.  Students having lectures should bring their homework to class.

Homework This Semester:  The amount and source of homework varies by the course, section and instructor.  Text homework assignments are given in the syllabus.  If online homework is made available, sometimes it is required and sometimes it is optional. See typical homework requirements below.

96:  I allow students to choose one of two homework options for each homework section assigned:  (#1) Do the text assigned homework (see syllabus) OR (#2) Do the online homework in MyMathLab for each section. Both homework options have approximately the same number of problems and the same objectives. Sometimes additional "Supplemental Homework" is assigned which is located in the course pack or announced in class. All homework is turned in for my review stapled to the corresponding quiz unless I tell you otherwise.  I do not collect homework the week prior to an exam, but turn it in on exam day.  Each student has a solution manual that was packaged with the text if purchased through the IHCC bookstore.  Use that when you are stuck on a problem or you want to see similar exercises worked out.

1103-99 online section: See your syllabus for required homework. Online homework earns points but is not collected. Minitab homework is listed at the end of each Minitab lesson. (See the Minitab homework section in the course pack beginning on page 62.)  Weekly Minitab homework is not collected but should be done to learn how to work with the program. However, graded Minitab assignments (MTAs) are due as printed on the schedule and should be submitted via the D2L dropbox. Generally, text or online homework is not collected unless stated in the weekly update or in a class e-mail. Online homework exercises show the problem code in the upper right corner of the screen. For example an exercise code 1.4.7 means problem 7 in section 1.4. If you have difficulty doing an online homework exercise, turn to your textbook exercise as shown in the code. Then view the solution step-by-step in the Student Solution Manual (in the textbook package) or in MyStatLab > Tools for Success. Also, in the software, you have several helpful online tools seen on right side of the screen.
