Software Grading Errors:  It rarely happens, but if you think that your answer is correct, but it was marked wrong, you can send me an e-mail directly from that online homework page using the "Ask my instructor" button.  A copy of your screen will be automatically attached to the e-mail.  Also, use the available buttons such as "Help me solve this" (breaks the problem down to the step-by-step level) and "View an example".

Online quizzes:   Online quizzes cannot be printed.  For quizzes, write each question on notepaper including the problem number and follow the homework guidelines (except that you cannot check your answer with an answer key).  When you complete the last question, click "submit".  Your score will immediately be shown.  Use the "Review" button to go back into the quiz to find where you made mistakes.  A red X shows an error.  A green checkmark indicates that the answer is correct.  Write your score at the top of the your quiz scratch paper and save your quiz work in a notebook.  If you have any questions that you think were scored incorrectly, send me an e-mail with the quiz number and the problem number along with a brief explanation of why you think that it should be correct.  I'll check it out online and if I agree with you, I will adjust your score.  Online homework is typically not collected for online students but is usually attached to quizzes for on campus classes for instructor review.

Turning in Homework:  Whether or not homework of any kind is turned in and whether or not it earns points depends on the course, the section, and the instructor's grading policy.  Read the homework section and the grading section in your course syllabus.  If it is not clear to you, ask your instructor.  Online homework is visible to me and I have access to scores and the amount of time spent on the homework.

Courses that I frequently teach:

Math 92, 94 & 96:  Students turn in text/online homework stapled to the corresponding quiz

Math 1103-02 or 1103-99 students do not turn in text/online homework unless I ask for it in advance.

Missing an exam:  The point value of exams varies by the course and instructor.  If a student knows in advance that they will miss an exam, make arrangements with the instructor to take the exam at an agreed upon alternate time and place.  If for any reason you know that you cannot make it there on the day of the exam, call the instructor immediately to leave an explanation.  In some courses make-up exams are not permitted.  Sometimes make-up exams are given but have a grade penalty imposed such as no partial credit or a lowering of the score by a certain percentage.  Also, there are restrictions on the number of days allowed for the makeup exam to take place.  Read the "Tests" and "Grading" sections of your syllabus for details in your course.  Online sections typically have scheduled rooms and times for taking the paper & pencil exams on campus.  If online students live at a great distance from campus, then the student and the instructor agree upon an alternate site and an approved proctor to administer the exams.  An online student in this situation must contact the instructor at the beginning of the semester to make these arrangements.
