The first page in that section shows the list of Minitab demonstration "labs" and the corresponding page numbers. The right column of numbers gives the page number for the answers to the Minitab homework exercises in each particular lesson. Minitab homework is assigned at the end of each lesson. For traditional sections (on campus sections) of Math 1103, Minitab demonstration labs (lessons) are done each week in a computer lab with the instructor present. If a student misses a Minitab lab, then talk to the instructor about how to make up the lab. For online students, the links to the Minitab lesson videos will be posted in D2L (Content) in the Minitab folder. Online sections of Math 1103 do their Minitab lessons by watching the videos while Minitab is open on their computer. In the orientation video, students learn how to navigate between the video and Minitab to perform the various exercises. Online students should actually do each Minitab task immediately after the video demonstration of that task. The section containing the Minitab notes for the videos (in the course pack) should be used when viewing the videos so that your notes are organized according the the lesson objectives. Minitab Homework: Minitab homework is assigned at the end of each Minitab demonstration "lab" in the course pack. Answers for the Minitab homework follows in the course pack after the last Minitab lesson. You should always check your Minitab homework answers to be sure that you are getting the correct results. There is no Minitab homework for the online "orientation" lesson. Beginning with the Basics lesson, most of the Minitab homework will result in output printed to the session window. You should save your homework assignments as a Minitab project file such as Mintab HW Basics. The first Minitab homework is on page 6. Minitab homework is not handed in unless requested. Graded Minitab Assignments: Each Minitab assignment covers content in the weekly Minitab lessons (in the lab class or on the lesson videos). These assignments are posted in D2L > Content > Minitab. instructions at the top of the page with points clearly shown. Due dates will be communicated on the assignment and on your course schedule (calendar). Reminders will be given by class announcement or by e-mail. The practice Minitab homework exercises are not turned in and do not earn points, but they must be done in order to learn how to use the program. How to retrieve Appendix B data files from the text CD or MyStatLab: It would be wise to copy the appendix B files from the CD or MyStatLab to a folder on your computer so that you can easily locate them for Minitab demonstration lab lessons, homework and graded assignments. See the next two items for specific instructions to retrieve data files from the text CD or MyStatLab software. Retrieving Triola's Appendix B data sets (worksheets) from the text CD: See page 216 in the Minitab Manual (workbook) that was packaged free with your textbook. Retrieving the data sets from within MyStatLab: MyStatLab > Tools for Success > Appendix B data sets > Minitab > and then select to copy these files and then paste to a "Minitab Data Sets" folder on your desktop (or elsewhere on your personal computer). Then follow the steps on page 216 in the Minitab Manual. Retrieving data sets from other folders within Minitab: File > Open worksheet > Look in (click on the drop-down menu to see other Minitab student version folders such as Studnt14, Studnt12, etc.). Locating SALES2.MTW for problem 2c in the Minitab homework on page 6: Pick one of the three options below that fits your situation. From campus computers: Files used in the course can be found on the L-drive in my folder. Look in > L-drive > NLange folder > then open the folder indicated such as Studnt14 or Studnt15 to see the worksheets listed. From personal computers: This data set is posted in MyStatLab > Course Materials > copy the file and paste it to a data folder on your computer. Then to open it from within Minitab: File > Open worksheet > Look in > click in that window to browse to your data folder and select the worksheet to open. If you do not see the file listed, usually students used the "open project file" by mistake so the software program doesn't show the worksheets. Don NOT click the folder icon on the upper tool bar when you want to open a worksheet. You MUST use "File > Open worksheet" in order to see available worksheets. Finding descriptions of data sets: Descriptions of data sets for Appendix B files are found in Appendix B at the back of the textbook because these are Triola data files. Look for the data set number and filename. A nice summary list of all Triola's Appendix B data sets is on page 217 of the Minitab Manual. Descriptions for other data files (Minitab program data sets) can be found by using the Minitab help icon on the top toolbar. Click the ? Help option. Then in the search window, type "sample data sets" or just "data sets". You should see a list of subjects contain those words. Click on "sample data sets". On the right side of the screen click on the first letter of the worksheet name. Then click on the file that you are looking for. A description of the file will appear. Renting Minitab for use at home: Students may download a student 15 version of Minitab for home use. I suggest that you first download a free 30-day copy of Minitab 15. If you use it and decide to purchase a semester license, you can go back to the website to purchase the option that you want. Be sure to read the descriptions of the various license options prior to making your selection.
