Discovering Computers

For each chapter in this book, you will be given a quiz. The quiz contains 20 multiple questions based on the chapter. Each of these quizzes is timed at 20 minutes. Each quiz can be taken only once.

To prepare for a quiz before you take it at D2L, you should take the practice test for the chapter at CoursePort. CoursePort provides other resources helpful for your understanding of the course material. You should explore the the site to see which fit you the best. While you can do any activities as you like, the work you do at CoursePort will NOT be recorded or graded. The practice tests can be repeated as many times as you like. However, each quiz at D2L can be taken only once.

At the end of the semester, there is a comprehensive exam covering all chapters in the book.

Office 2010

For each chapter in this book, you will be graded as the following:

bullet

I will walk through the steps in the book with your in class to create a file (or files). You will submit these files using the drop boxes at D2L at the end of the class. I will grade these assignments manually. These assignments must be done and completed in class. If you miss an in-class assignment, you can make it up by taking a quiz at D2L.

bullet

To reinforce what you have learned from the chapter, you will work on a SAM Project. For these projects, you will log in to SAM to download the instruction and a start file. You will follow the instructions to modify the start file. When you are done, you will submit the file to SAM. These files will be graded immediately by a software and you can see your score right away. You are allowed five attempts for each assignment at SAM. If you are not satisfied with the score after a submission, you should read the report for any marked errors. You can resubmit the assignment (up to five submissions) after you make corrections.

There is a unit exam after each of the following Office component: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access. Tis exam can be taken only once.

Class Policies:
Late Assignments

Late take home assignments will not be accepted in this class. If you missed an in-class assignment, you can make up the assignment by taking the corresponding quiz before its deadline.

Incomplete:
To receive an "Incomplete", you must have completed at least 75% of the required work and is getting a grade of C or better unless you have a "documented" medical condition. It is your responsibility to provide a written request for the "Incomplete".
Academic Dishonesty:
Each student must do all of their own work, including every single step of every single problem. Letting other people do your work and taking the credit as your own is a form of academic dishonesty.  An assignment, quiz, or exam will receive a score of zero if you cheat.
Grade Book Keeping:
Your grades will be kept at D2L course site.  You can check your grades anytime during the semester. If you have disputes regarding the score of a specific item, you must talk to the instructor within two weeks from the time the score becomes available at D2L.
Deadline for "W" grade:

If you have decided not to participate in this class during the semester, it is important that you officially withdraw from the class at the registration office.  Otherwise, your grade for this class will be F on your transcript. The last day to drop with a "W" is April 18, 2012.

Grading: The following table shows the break down of your grade for this class.

In general, 92-100% guarantees an A, 82-91.9% for B, 72-81.9% for C, 60-71.9% for D, and a percentage below 60% is an F.
Category Percentage of the maximum total
