| Course Description: |
This course introduces database concepts and techniques to users and
designers of database systems using Access. .
Topics include relational database concepts, building and
customizing tables, creating queries, and constructing basic forms and
reports. |

Quizzes |
|
There will be five in-class quizzes. No
make-up quizzes will be given unless an arrangement is made
PRIOR to the time of the quiz. |

In-Class Assignments |
|
These assignments will be done in class and checked
by the instructor in class. If you have to miss a class, you
will need to make up the work on your own and submit the file to
Desire2Learn. |
|
Take-Home Assignments |
|
There will be a take-home assignment after each Tutorial which
will be finished outside of the class. No
late assignments will be accepted in this class. To provide some
flexibility in your schedule, each student is allowed to submit
one assignment late for the entire semester. |
|
Incomplete: |
|
To receive an
"Incomplete", you must have completed at least 75% of
the required work unless you have a documented medical
condition. It is your responsibility to provide a written request
for the "Incomplete". |
Grade
Book Keeping:
Your
grades will be kept at D2L course site. You can check your
grades anytime during the semester. If you have disputes regarding
the score of a specific item, you must talk to the instructor
within two weeks from the time the score becomes available at
D2L. |

The "W" grade:
|
If you have
decided not to participate in this class during the semester, it is
important that you officially withdraw from the class at the registration
office. Otherwise, your grade for this class will be F on your
transcript. The last day to withdraw from this class for the "W" grade is
November 25th.2009.

| Grading: |
Your
final grade will be determined based on the total points you earn on the quizzes, in-class assignments, take-home assignments, and
three exams.
- In-class assignments: This is the result of following
the tutorial in the book. I will walk you through the steps in
class.
- Take-home assignments: You will be asked to create
Word files using the skills you have learnt in class. You will
need to figure out the steps on your own.
- Quizzes: A quiz will be given after each tutorial. Each quiz contains 20 multiple choice questions. All quizzes are closed book.
- Final Exam: This exam contains projects similar to your take home
assignments.
In general, 91-100% guarantees
an A, 81-90.9% for B, 71-80.9% for C, 61-70.9% for D, and a
percentage below 61% is an F.
